Mail processing and email address status

Suppression list

The suppression list contains e-mail addresses where it has been determined that mail cannot be delivered there. The list is automatically maintained by Ternair.

An e-mail address appears on the suppression list for undetermined time:
  • In the case of two hard bounces

  • In the case of a feedback loop (by default, if no client-specific feedback loop process is configured)

An email appears temporarily (14 days) on the suppression list:
  • If the email address soft bounces more than twice within 14 days.

E-mail address status

The status of an e-mail address is constantly monitored and when it is part of an e-mail transmission.

The status 'not valid' is applicable:
  • If the e-mail address is on the suppression list

  • If the e-mail address is empty or the format is wrong

Manually reset e-mail address status

E-mail addresses that have the status 'not valid' can be manually reset to 'valid', making them mailable again. The email address is then allowed once. All of the above checks are reinstated from the date the reset was performed. Note that any blacklist administration is not changed.

Dispatch process email & rejected

E-mail addresses are checked against a checklist before dispatch.

Filters:
  • All email addresses that appear on the blacklist (if set)

  • All email addresses on the suppression list, unless the status of the email address has been manually reset before the most recent bounce/feedback loop

  • All email addresses with a status of "not valid"

E-mail addresses that meet these criteria are removed from the mailing and reported as "rejected" in the statistics. If necessary, the status of the email address is updated.
