What is the Audience Manager? (Audiences)

The Audience Manager is the environment within Ternair where all your connected data sources are available to create audiences. Here you select and combine data, set up A/B tests, enrich and deduplicate data. You can also create integrations or upload new sources here. Each segment you create becomes an Audience, which you can then make available in the Campaign Manager.

The Audience Manager is intended for users who know what data the platform contains and can make selections from it. These are often Ternair Admins and Superusers, but database marketers and all-round marketers also use this functionality.

What is the Campaign Manager? (Campaigns)

The Campaign Manager is the environment within Ternair where you set up and manage campaigns. Here you choose an (already created) audience and add channels, content, personalizations, and schedules. A campaign can consist of multiple flows or sends. This can be a weekly newsletter, but also communication triggered by data, such as sending a personalized offer after specific behavior. You can also view selections and export audiences here.

Difference between Audience Manager and Campaign Manager

In the Audience Manager, you determine who you want to reach and create the audience. Without an audience, you cannot activate a campaign — the Audience Manager is always the foundation.

Example: You create a selection of all customers who subscribed to the newsletter in the past 30 days. You make this selection available as the Audience “New subscribers.”

In the Campaign Manager, you determine what you send and when. You build campaign flows, personalize content, and use the available audiences.

Example: A welcome email for all new subscribers from the past 30 days with personalized content that uses the audience “New subscribers.”

A concrete example

You want to send a welcome email to all new newsletter subscribers from the past week, as an automated flow:
  • Audience Manager – you create a selection of all contacts who subscribed in the past 7 days. You publish this as the Audience “New subscribers – week.”

  • Campaign Manager – you create a new flow: “Welcome email new subscribers – week.”

  • Campaign Manager – you select the “Audience” block as recipients and link the audience “New subscribers – week.” Then you add an email block to design the email.

  • Campaign Manager – add a Schedule block to send the email automatically every week. Activate it, and both the schedule and the audience will be recalculated weekly, and the email will be sent.

Note 1: This Audience can also be used in other campaigns.
Note 2: If you want to create a reminder campaign for, for example, non-openers of this welcome email, you also define that audience in the Audience Manager.
